a total of $900,000, to be paid in five annual instalments of $180,000, commencing on the 1st of July, 1929.

The value of the promised site at Kowloon

as at present estimated, is $191,700 at $7.50 a square foot.

The matter has been referred to the Finance

Committee of the Legislative Council and has received their

approval and funds are available for the payment of the

first instalment on the first of July.

Actual building cannot at present commence on the Wanchai site as the ground of the reclamation is not yet sufficiently settled, but there are and will be preliminary expenses in the way of plans etc., to meet

which, the Trustees ask for an early payment of the first

instalment. I request your authority to adopt these

proposals, to make the first payment as soon as possible after the 1st July and to provide in the annual estimates

of 1930 for the payment of the remaining instalments. should be glad to receive your authority, if you agree,

by cable.

The original proposal for the exchange of

the site at West Point was made with the idea that this

site would be available for sale by Government, thus in part at least recouping the cost of transfer. It is however now proposed that part of the site should be

utilized for a new Police Station which is regarded as

being a pressing necessity in that district.

In all probability there will still be a

certain area available for sale.
